Xiaomi, The 5-year-old mobile manufacturing company, also known as the Apple of China enters Guinness Book of World Record for selling 2 million smartphones in a day during its Mi Fan Fest flash sale on March 8, 2015.

The 2.11 million sales happened during one of Xiaomi’s popular “flash sales,” where large quantities of previously “out-of-stock” devices are put on sale for frenzied Xiaomi fans to snap up. This sale was held during Xiaomi’s fifth birthday celebration. Xiaomi had a twelve hour ‘Mi Fan Festival 2015’ across seven countries in Asia. The company announced during its Mi Fan Fest it sold 2.11 million phones in 24 hours, raking in $355 million in sales revenue.In addition to smartphone sales, Xiaomi sold 770,000 smart appliances, 247,000 power strips, 208,000 fitness watches, 79,000 Wi-Fi units and 38,000 smart TVs.

While Xiaomi isn’t as big as Samsung or Apple, the company has been growing a lot lately. Xiaomi only sells mobile phones through its website ‘Mi.com’. Apple also sells phones online but mainly Apple sells its mobile phones through brick-and-mortar Apple stores, carrier stores, and third-party places like Best Buy. According to International Data Corporation, Xiaomi stands fifth in worldwide market share of smartphones despite having presence in few countries only.
